These mittens were created to withstand some serious cold. Each mitten is knit as two separate mittens, and one fits inside the other. The result is a double layer of insulation that keeps tiny hands toasty warm. Minnesota toddler tested and approved.

Here's how we designed and made our own ultralight down sleeping quilt, big enough to cover the whole family. Our homemade quilt kept our family of three warm on 40 degree nights, it packed down to less than the size of one of our sleeping bags, and weighed just over 2 lbs.
